Travel mugs that are best for hot drinks do not spill. The last thing you want with hot coffee or tea in your mug is a major spill. I understand that not all travel mugs are leak proof but tipping it over shouldn’t result in a complete loss.
You also shouldn’t feel the heat on the side walls of the mug. For one this means that your hot drink is getting cold faster than it should but two it’s not all that comfortable.
Similarly I don’t think a good hot drink travel mug should have plastic on the inside or on the drinking lip. Hot beverages on plastic can leave a bad taste in the mouth and they don’t feel as good to drink from.
I don’t think you need to spend an arm and a leg for a good insulated mug but you should spend a bit more than a few dollars at Big Lots.
Here are some of the best options out there without spending too much money.
